A Sneak Peek at the republika Pop-up

This shoppable pop-up collection was inspired by the turn of the 19th century brought the first big migration of Filipinos to the U.S. The “Manongs” were predominately single men, working back breaking farm jobs. In their free time they dressed to the nines drawing the irie of their white counterparts . They also became labor leaders, building the foundations of the farmer workers movement.

To celebrate Filipino American Heritage Month, the San Francisco Filipino Cultural Center, Republika, and Arkipelago Books created a shopable selection of the finest literary work from our community. Each books stands on it’s on a slice of the dynamic Filipino-American culture in the Bay Area and beyond. Catch this exhibit at the San Francisco Filipino Community Center.

This window shop collection reflects how Filipinx culture is rooted in the ethos of social justice and inclusivity. Grounded in the social commentary found in hip-hop, while underscoring the need for genderless boundaries, and advocating for equity—Filipinx culture seeks to heal & fix the wounds of a fractured society.
